Glen Ellyn, COD may settle sign dispute
By Jenn Zimmerman

First day of kindergarten
Glen Ellyn and College of DuPage officials appear to have settled an ongoing dispute Aug. 24, potentially ending a battle over signage that brought both sides to court earlier this year. The two entities have been at odds over whether COD needs village permission for a variety of campus changes, particularly the installation of about \$2 million in electronic signs. During a Glen Ellyn Village Board meeting Aug. 23, officials said the college could proceed with the sign installation as long as it agreed to begin negotiating a new intergovernmental agreement. In addition, the college would have to put on hold its lawsuit challenging Glen Ellyn’s oversight of campus improvements. “Overall, I think it is a pretty good framework to deal with each other,” said COD’s attorney Ken Florey. Florey confirmed Aug. 24 the college is willing to move forward with negotiations, which are expected to take up to 60 days. If an agreement isn’t reached after that time, either party can move forward with legal action. Previously, Glen Ellyn cited the college for installing electronic signs. Otherwise, all claims will be released against either side.

But it became necessary because of the signs.” The signs, which will display messages about school activities and information such as weather warnings, have been a major source of debate between the two. Glen Ellyn officials believe all COD building and zoning activities are subject to village approval, while representatives of the college believe state law exempts COD and other junior colleges from any local control. However, now instead of looking to a court to decide who has control, the village

School officials: Vision for Hubble site is a priority
By Jenn Zimmerman
TRIBLOCAL REPORTER
With wholesale giant Costco now off the table as a potential buyer of the former Hubble Middle School site, school officials want to make sure they have a clear vision before moving forward. “I think we need to ensure that we have something to go forward on,” said Wheaton Warrenville School District 200 board member Barbara Intihar. During a school board meeting Aug. 25, officials expressed the importance of
putting together a concrete vision for the Hubble site and not getting sidetracked over talks about potential buyers. Over the past several months, rumors have circulated that Costco was interested in taking over the Hubble property, which is located near Roosevelt and Naperville roads. The possibility sparked an outcry in the community from many local residents and nearby homeowners, who were concerned
