Alumni & Friends e-newsletter October ‘09
Dear Alumni & Friends,
Although the school year has just begun, the CBA has already seen exciting things. UIC played host to the 2009 Innovation Awards nominee’s reception on September 14, where Dean Stefanie Lenway accepted the \$5,000 Kuczmarski Innovation Scholarship. The national CPA test results were released and showed that students from the CBA’s Master of Science in Accounting program ranked 19th in the nation in terms of passing all tests. And one of our MBA alumni is being honored by the university for his exceptional service to the community. All this, plus we offer a rundown of the latest news and events from the college.

From the BAA
As an alumnus of UIC’s MBA program and the current president of UIC’s Business Alumni Association, I’m always pleased to see a fellow
UIC MBA
receive recognition. In October, UIC will be giving out the Alumni Five Awards to alumni that have given back to the university and the community. The recipient of the UIC City Partner Award is Ricardo Estrada, MBA Class of 1997. Ricardo is the Executive Director of the Erie Neighborhood House, a place that provides services to adults and children that need language and job skills. I am constantly amazed at the accomplishments of the business alumni from UIC, and its great that stories and achievements like Ricardo’s are celebrated. Ricardo, like many of our undergrad and graduate alums, are working hard to make a difference in the community. My goal as head of the BAA is to continue to bring alums together, celebrate these accomplishments, and build pride and excitement in UIC and all of our alums. It’s a great achievement for Ricardo, and I congratulate him! —David Henkes, president of BAA
