Liautaud Graduates Win Young Innovators Award MBA graduates Dr. Amir Bastawrous, Michael McCoy and Matthew Norris were awarded the 2009 Young Innovator Award at the Chicago Innovation Awards for their start-up medical device company, Heartsounds, which they started in Liautaud’s Tech Ventures Program. Jim Liautaud Featured in Wall Street Journal Jim Liautaud, benefactor of UIC’s Liautaud Graduate School of Business was featured in a Wall Street Journal article entitled “Profiles in Retirement.” Family Business Council Featured in Crain’s Family Business Council members Marilyn, Stephen and Aaron Singer were featured in a recent article on family businesses in Crain’s Chicago Business.

Notes from the BAA President
As we go into the holiday season, the Business Alumni Association and its board have been working to develop a number of forums for alums to network, meet old friends, make new friends, and learn a bit in the process. Our next event geared toward all alums is our Holiday Party, which takes place on Tuesday, December 15, 2009, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00p.m. We have a great venue for the party – Gioco in the South Loop (

) and the cost is \$5 per person, which includes appetizers and a drink ticket. Going into the new year, we have several events that are being planned, including a “How Chicago Works” event on February 16, 2010. The topic will be “The Impact of Social Networking on Chicago Business” and will feature a lively panel discussion from a number of experts. Our MBA Alumni Committee is also holding an ENGAGE event in January that focuses on microfinance. As alumni ourselves, our goal is to create impactful events and programs that are valuable to other alums, and we hope that many of you take advantage of some of the great things that are being planned. Finally, we will be working in a number of more social events, including another alumni happy hour and the opportunity to get back to campus to watch a UIC basketball game.
