By Judy Smestad-Nunn Hy Josovitz is a giving man. A deeply religious man who has devoted his retirement years to helping people who need help. In addition to his volunteer work in Toms River for Meals on Wheels, the food bank and Caregivers, the 82-year-old was asked by his rabbi to speak to students at St. Joseph School about the Holocaust. Speaking about the Holocaust is appropriate for Josovitz. He is a Holocaust survivor. “I did four or five classes at St. Joe’s and it opened the door for speakers. I’ve been speaking in almost all the schools now,” he said from his Woodland Estates home last week. “None of the (Holocaust) survivors ever talked about it,” he said. “It took us 40 to 50 years to talk about it…it doesn’t help me to talk about this, but people need to know.” The father of four, Josovitz said he never discussed his experiences with his children while they were growing up, “because I felt it wasn’t important they go through

Six Seek Seats On Council, Mayor’s Office
By Eric San Juan When Election Day comes on Tuesday, May 11, voters in Manchester will have a few choices to make, including the big one: Who will be their mayor. Six candidates are on the ballot, two seeking the mayor’s position and four seeking four-year seats on the Township Council. Mayor Michael Fressola is running for re-election, along with Councilmen Craig Wallis and Brendan Weiner. They are running as the “Continued Good Government” team. Challenging them will be James Poss, who ran and lost against Fressola four years Election Day ago, and is Tuesday, r un ning May 11. m at e s Remsen Meyer and William Peck. They are running as “For All The People.” All are seeking four-year terms. Fressola has been a Manchester resident for 21 years. The former councilman is seeking his fourth term as mayor of Manchester Township. The Naval Reserve veteran is a board member of the NJ League of Municipalities and is vice president of the Ocean County Mayor’s Association. Poss, a 24-year resident, ran for mayor and council in 2006 and 2008, respectively. He is a selfemployed insurance agent. He is a coach with Manchester Little League and other youth sports. Local Theater Company Aims For Broadway In Manchester
By Kim Fink To refer to Imperial Theater Arts Association (ITAA) merely as Manchester’s community theater might be an understatement. Yes, the Whiting-based company uses local venues for their performances, and yes, they provide theatrical performances for the neighboring communities. They are comprised of talented, dedicated area residents who have a passion for theater arts and the company is run and directed by a long-time Lakehurst resident. However, the title “community theater” falls short of their goals. “Our goal is to bring professional theater to the Manchester/Toms River area,” said founder Michael W. Grande. “The cast of our upcoming performance ‘South Pacific’ and I are united by a common goal. We want people to recognize us as the Jersey Shore’s premier professional grade theater company.”
