UIC COLLEGE OF
Students Complete First China Rotation
University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry students for four weeks in April performed a first-time Community Based Dental Education Program clinical rotation in China. The four students, all of whom graduated in May 2012, are Cheon Joo “CJ” Yoon, Tayyabba Athar, Amanda Henry, and Stefan Bergeron. The students were joined for a time by Dr. Christine Wu, Professor, Pediatric Dentistry; Dr. Darryl Pendleton, Associate Dean for Student and Diversity Affairs; and Dr. Indru Punwani, Head, Pediatric Dentistry. Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangzhou, China, was the site of the rotation, where the students worked at the Guanghua School of Stomatology. They were on duty five days per week and rotated through prosthodontics, periodontics, and conservative dentistry/endodontics. “It’s an interesting partnership with a dental school that shares our Vision of improving dental education, access to dental services, and oral health sciences research,” Dr. Pendleton said.
